First week of the holidays and London is too hot, it hurts to breathe the air, and I’m sure the heat makes the nausea worse than ever. We did go for a walk along the Thames and I’d swear being by the water made me feel better.

Diet

We went to Dishroom for our wedding anniversary and it was delicious but I had to get a doggy bag as my appetite is so small. I’ve been having peppermint tea and ginger biscuits to try and combat nausea. Food shopping is such a pain, I can barely get round the shops without having to run off to be sick.

How I’m feeling

Quite tired, I must confess I nearly fell asleep during The Lion King movie at the cinema. I took Ava to Natural History Museuma and we’ve had lots of morning outings to Holland Park and Brook Green playgrounds but I am done by the afternooon. Have to sleep so I can get some work done afterwards. I can’t make dinner, some days I can’t even open the fridge; fortunately, my husband Takie is a really good cook. We went bowling for our Wedding Anniversary which was great fun but I only had energy for one game and I couldn’t face a restaurant so we went for drive-thru and listened to plays on Radio 4 via BBC iPlayer in the car, which I know sounds sad, but we love it. We used to do it when Ava was a baby and fell asleep in the car, now she likes to join in too.

We told Ava she’s going to be a big sister on the morning of our 10th wedding anniversary as we’ve got our 12 weeks scan next week and as it’s the school holidays she’ll be coming with us. She was every excited – just look at this face!

We wrote Ava a letter for her to open from the baby. She’s been so amazing and supportive and doing my pregnancy yoga with me and checking in to see how I’m feeling. She’s been doing the Katharine Graves hypnobirthing with me and falls asleep during the practice – she looks so serene and peaceful. She’s been telling me that when the baby comes I should nap when the baby naps and that she’ll help. I don’t expect her to help but very grateful she’s being so kind and generous.

Pregnancy Questions

This week my question for my mum (Sarah Beeson) was…

Q: What’s a good way to help children feel involved with the pregnancy without making everyday and everything about the baby?

A: Quite important to let your child lead the way here. Let them raise questions and any concerns without being dismissive and be open and honest about the changes a new baby will bring to the existing family unit. Lots of hugs, fun and listening to your child and involving them in preparations and the pregnancy journey make all the difference.

They might like to help getting clothes equipment etc ready and in making space for the baby but only as long as they‘re happy to help. Try not to be hurt or upset by the odd wobble and “What about me” moments. It’s natural and to be expected that it won’t all be plain sailing but not being dismissive or censorious if your child is sometimes not so keen will help them feel secure and loved during this time of change.

Pregnancy Tip

Going for a walk in the park, near water or through the woods is a great way to boost your mood and get some exercise during pregnancy. A short walk everyday can work wonders for nausea too #8weekspregnant #pregnancyproblems
