What stays down mainly. Anyone else got second trimester pregnancy sickness? Everyone keeps telling me I’m glowing, I think that’s the dash to get to the playground and back. Post school run I do like a coffee and a pastry I must confess. I’m also snaffling up quick snacks likr hummus with cucumber and carrot sticks or cheese on crackers. If I’m home around 10am I stick a jacket potato in the oven and eat it at midday with tuna mayo and a salad.
How I’m feeling
We were geared up for our second midwife visit but she had to reschedule to go to a woman in labour; which I totally get. I hope she’ll be there for me when my time comes. I’m still having pregnancy sickness but there’s no doubt I’ve more energy now I’m in the second trimester – and thanks heavens for that or I don’t know how Ava would get to school.
Second week of life going back to normal and it was a joy to go to my first pregnancy yoga class with Tara Lee at the Life Centre. For me yoga is something that is daily source of nourishment whether that’s doing the postures to ease my body or the meditation and breath work to bring balance and calm to my busy mind. I already do Tara’s DVD but going to class is very special and one of the things I’ve been really looking forward to about this pregnancy journey.
I went back to my dance aerobics class which is part cardio, part toning, and part dance. The dance is my favourite bit and it is such a confidence boost and loads of fun with fitness instructor Doctor Nirja Joshi (that’s right she’s a GP by day and a Diva by night). It’s not a pregnancy class but I’ve been going for 18 months and you can keep up your fitness classes as long as you make safe adjustments for the growing bump. I always leave feeling fabulous.
We’ve started getting our bedroom prepared for baby rooming in with us in a Snuzpod. This meant my husband Takie having to rebuild a fitted wardrobe and redecorate completely single handed. When you see the crib your new arrival will be sleeping in it’s a tingly pregnancy highlight as new parents. Thank you so much to SnuzPod for our crib and my mum. I was really lucky that my mum was a judge for the Prima Baby Awards and we were so impressed with this bedside crib they sent her one (back when I was dreaming but had no plans for a new baby to come into our family). I love it so much, I can’t wait to use it especially for those night feeds when I think it will a bit of a sleep saver in the middle of the night for the breastfeeding/crib transfer. The neutral colours of the SnuzPod definitely influenced my choice of wallpaper.
Getting our bedroom ready helped me focused on creating a list of what we need to get. So I’ve created a New Baby List on Giftster. Which means I can share it with friends and family, have all my links to various websites in one place and curate my list as we tick things off, make new discoveries and change our minds on what we need to get.
Takie said this pregnancy is going faster than it did the first time. I think he’s right. Being busy working parents we don’t have the headspace or the time as we did the first time round. Anyone else found that too?
Pregnancy Questions
This week my question for my mum (Sarah Beeson) was…
Q: I’m so busy managing work, home life and being a mum how can I still make that connection with this baby when I’m always on the go?
A: Your baby is so connected to you and is tuned into your voice and physically connects with every little move and sound you make. Talking and singing, saying your baby’s name or a nick name if you haven’t picked one yet all connect you to her. Why not make a playlist for your pregnancy and labour she’ll recognise. Try to make time for breathing and relaxation – even five minutes all day helps create a positive and nurturing connection for you and your baby.
