Diet
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside. I like scampi, chips, crab, burgers, salads and pasta. My mum’s roast dinners are the best. Appetite is improving though I’m still being sick some days.
How I’m feeling
We went to spend a couple of days near the sea with family. It rained most of the time but we did get one really good session swimming in the sea. Ava loved being on her boogie board, she never wanted to come out. She was so happy to go to another country – Wales. It was really nice to have a change of scenery from London.
I can definitely feel bubbles in my tummy – just tiny flutters. It’s all feeling a lot less seasick than it was. Glad to be taking this time out before normal life resumes and Ava goes back to school and people find out I’m actually pregnant. I’m better at letting things wash over me when I’m pregnant, but how do you cope with upsetting comments?
Pregnancy Questions
This week my question for my mum (Sarah Beeson) was…
Q: How good it to start planning for pregnancy and birth or can you overthink it? What should I be doing in the second trimester?
A: Follow your own feelings about planning. Some women really don’t want to plan very much at all and others really want to be as prepared as possible. Be aware of your physical, mental and emotional health needs. Keep taking your pregnancy vitamins and minerals e.g. folic acid. Ask your GP about your suitability for flu and whooping cough vaccines. Your midwife is your first contact for support, advice and planning for birth.
In the second trimester (13 to 28 weeks) your baby bump will show more and at some stage family, friends and work colleagues who don’t already know possibly need to be informed. Physically you may notice or experience some symptoms like sore gums, skin changes and some women have Braxton Hicks contractions so talk to your midwife or doctor about anything you notice. Ensure you’re getting good nutrition; Vitamin D, calcium, magnesium and iron and protein. With pregnancy sickness some good sources like broccoli and avocados may not be your things at the moment; you can try green beans, seeds, peanut butter and some Greek yogurt. You may have cravings e.g. a little dark chocolate and aversions as well so it’s trial and error for foods that are good sources of nutrition and don’t make you queasy.
